In our bid to raise health awareness among people regarding various diseases SSSS since its inception was also trying to motivate students, youth, workers in field and factory, common men that Blood Donation is a social duty. It should be built up as a movement organized by voluntary organizations namely SHH, WBVBD, AVBD, SSSS and like minded NGOs. Before taking up an ambitious project of setting a blood bank as per guidelines set by NGO we had the experience of organizing and collecting blood through Non-Remunerated voluntary Blood donation camps throughout the Burdwan district and adjoining areas of other districts since 1981.
Considering the prime need of the hour to provide safe blood to the needy to be collected from voluntary blood donors, which has become mandatory due to the bold decision of the Central Non-Remunerated. to ban collection of blood from professional donors there by encourging non-remunerated voluntary blood donation and order of the Apex Court for mandatory testing of all collected blood samples (free from HIV, HBsAg, HCV, VDRL, & MP) by ELISA, laboratory processing and storage following the guidelines set forth by NACO, SSSS decided to start a small modern blood bank to cater the need. This is a humble effort to supply whole blood to the ailing in addition to the efforts made by the Government in this regard. People from all walks of life came forward with their contributions large or small. Free consultations from experts at every point helped us to take up this challenging yet deserving project to serve the mankind. On an average 7,500 blood units are supplied to the needy during the last two years .
With the blessing of all concerned RASHMI Blood Bank, a unit of Saheed Shibsankar Seba Samity started its onward journey from the 24th October, 1998. His Lordship Samir Kumar Mukherjee, Honb'le Chief Justice, Calcutta High Court was gracious enough to inaugurate this noble project dedicated to the service of the people in the presence of a distinguished gathering.
